Guitar Neck – knowing where the notes are on your guitar neck has its advantages. For one, you can play the same chord all over the guitar neck, and invert that chord for a different sound from that same chord. You can use triads . Did I say TRIADS ? For those of you who are just starting out, TRIADS are nothing but three string chords. When you know your guitar fret board well, you can use these TRIAD chords anywhere on you guitar neck. These Triad chords can also be inverted . For example, if you play a C chord which is C- E- G, and then invert that same C chord, it would still be a C chord. But this inverted C chord would sound different and no one would know that you are still playing that same C chord. Now if you keep inverting this C chord from, let’s say from the first string all the way up to the 6th string , the sound of this C chord will just keep changing over again. So all these different sounds from this one C chord is amazing . You can write a song with this just one C chord. If you invert all of your triad chords, you will be able to play a melody with just triad chords. I do this now and I have to tell you that, when you are playing alone, and you have no other instruments backing you up, the sound on your electric guitar is so much more fulfilled. Yes single playing notes are nice especially when you’re playing lead guitar, but when you start to mix your triad chords with you lead playing, your electric guitar will sound awesome. You won’t need any sustain pedals or distortion box to fill this empty gap when you learn these techniques. So now you can see the advantages of knowing your guitar neck. you’ll be amazed how easy these techniques are once you master your fret board.
